I heard someone say once that addiction is the absence of connection. When we think of addictions, usually we think of substance abuse, gambling etc. but addiction to technology is probably the most common addiction in modern society. The irony is that it is intended to make us more connected yet there is an epidemic of depression and anxiety growing each day. While becoming more connected we have disconnected from the present. When depressed, one typically lives in the past and with anxiety you are in the living in fear of the future. Social media is made up of our past photos and words. We are contently reminded of how we used to be. It can make us compare and lose gratitude for what we have. Maybe technology addiction is just the norm now, but it doesn’t mean we should continue to abuse it if it doesn’t not contribute to a healthy mindset. Social media is what you make of it, just like the rest of life. I personally hate feeling like I am wasting my time, yet I do it all the time. Sure, I am usually learning new information, but there is no direction, I’m not applying what I was learning, not creating anything new. I have the new feature on my phone that tracts my daily use, but it has not lessened my use, only made me more aware, maybe that is why I feel the desire to write all of this in the first place. I feel like I have spent the first half of my twenties looking down at a screen. My intention now, is to create, experience, and grow with a direction. That direction is one that fills my life with joy, connection and real memories. I am putting all the knowledge I have gathered into practice, choosing to be mindful about the time I spend on my phone will be very high on my priorities. How to be in harmony with it, use it to give information to help others. Also, giving back and supporting others whose message resonates with me.

-Following accounts that make you feel really good and inspired.
-Unfollowing accounts that no longer resonate with you.
-Honouring your integrity, what would you tolerate or allow in person.
-Transparency with boundaries.
-Setting an intention about length of time you will be using phone.
-When I catch myself comparing, I trying to think of 3 things I am grateful for.
